HEIC to JPG on Windows

Works without admin rights. This is a web app — no installation, no Windows Store, no UAC prompts.
Why Windows can't open HEIC files
Windows 10 and 11 have no built-in HEIC support. Here's why, and the easiest ways to fix it.
The Windows HEIC problem
When you transfer iPhone photos to a Windows PC via USB, email, or OneDrive, you end up with .heic files that Windows Photo Viewer and Explorer can't display. You'll see a generic file icon instead of a preview.
Microsoft offers a fix — the "HEIF Image Extensions" in the Windows Store — but it requires admin rights to install, costs money on some Windows versions, and doesn't help if you're on a work or school computer.
The browser solution (no install)
ConvertStack runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly — a technology built into Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. There's nothing to install, no admin rights needed, and it works on any Windows PC including locked-down corporate machines.
How to transfer HEIC from iPhone to Windows
Connect your iPhone via USB
Use your Lightning or USB-C cable. Trust the computer when prompted on your iPhone.
Open File Explorer
Your iPhone appears as a portable device. Navigate to Internal Storage → DCIM → and find your photos.
Copy HEIC files to your Downloads folder
Select the photos you want, copy, and paste into a folder on your Windows PC.
Drag the files into ConvertStack above
Drop the HEIC files from your folder into the converter. Download the JPGs when done.
Alternative: Use iCloud for Windows
If you use iCloud Photos, the iCloud for Windows app can automatically convert HEIC to JPG when you download from iCloud. Go to iCloud settings → Photos → enable "Keep Originals" or choose JPG in the download format option.
